The State Parliament can use commissions to comprehensively clarify matters that are crucial to parliamentary decisions. A commission can be composed of MPs as well as experts, who are not Members of Parliament. Just like committees, commissions always deliberate in public.

The State Parliament has appointed a committee for migration and integration issues which will regularly debate all questions relating to cultural, ideological and religious diversity as well as the special situation of Lower Saxony’s migrant community and their integration and participation.

In addition, there are currently three select committees dealing with the following areas:

•           ‘Safeguarding inpatient and outpatient health care in Lower Saxony for high-quality local health care’

•           ‘Improving the framework for voluntary commitment’

•           ‘Improving child protection and preventing abuse and sexual violence towards children’
